Description

Che Guevara: A Biography is the story of the life of the famous Cuban revolutionary by Robert L. Harris.

Summary of the Book

Ernesto Guevara’s name inspires just as much hope in some people as it does hatred in others. He is called “the Butcher of La Cabaña” by those who hate him just as frequently as he’s called “Che” by those who love him. As a young medical student, he journeyed across South America and witnessed the stark reality of poverty, hunger and disease. He opposed what he believed was the capitalist exploitation of Latin America by the United States of America. To this end he joined President Jacobo Árbenz. US Assistance in Árbenz’s eventual overthrow at the behest of the United Fruit Company reinforced Che’s ideology and brought him to two people with whom he would reshape history forever. Che joined the insurgents led by Raúl and Fidel Castro, becoming the second-in-command. He eventually became one of their most able generals. This book retells the story of Ernesto “Che” Guevara: guerrilla, political leader, revolutionary, freedom fighter and friend. It includes details on the discovery of his remains and explains his strategies, his motivational skills and his relentless enthusiasm for freedom.
